Welcome to Georgia's Historic High Country!

Northwest Georgia, known as Georgia’s Historic High Country, is known for a myriad of sights, landscapes and legends. Small towns featuring charming shopping plazas, cultural attractions and bed and breakfasts are abundant, and residents are friendly and hospitable. The landscape of this region is varied, and one can experience the scenery via foot, scenic drive, bicycle or even horseback.

Steeped in history, Northwest Georgia is home to Civil War battlefields and remnants of Native American culture. Pickett's Battlefield is one of the nation's most well-preserved battlefields, and the Battle of Resaca is re-enacted each May on the original site of the conflict. The Etowah Indian Mounds is a 54-acre site that protects six earthen mounds, a plaza, village site, borrow pits and defensive ditch. Etowah Mounds is the most intact Mississippian Culture site in the Southeast.

For those who love the outdoors, Northwest Georgia features a variety of opportunities for recreation. Floyd State Park features a 1.6 mile hike to Pinhoti Trail, cottages, campsites, two stocked lakes, pedal boats, playgrounds, pioneer campground, picnic shelters, while Red Top Mountain State Park also features 18 cottages, 92 campsites, one Yurt, boat rentals, 12 miles of hiking trails, 3/4 mile paved trail suitable for wheelchairs and stollers on Lake Allatoona, and more.

Other Northwest Georgia attractions include Rock City in Lookout Mountain, Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, and Prater's Mill in Varnell.
